It is a canard. In aeronautics, canard (French for duck) is an airframe configuration of fixed-wing aircraft in which the forward surface is smaller than the rearward, the former being known as the "canard", while the latter is the main wing. In contrast a conventional aircraft has a small horizontal stabilizer behind the main wing.
Thank you Wiki.Owner,I believe, comes from Kilmarnock.

The aircraft is a homebuild Rutan Long-EZ. It does have nosewheel, retracted under the canard in these pics, and it is often left retracted in this way, perhaps for security to prevent theft of the aircraft. This one flies out of Scone, Perth. A search on the reg G-OMJT will quickly show it there, complete with lowered nosewheel, and it looks even better. (Singer/songwriter John Denver died while flying one).

Can't wait to see the aliens at the tractor rally!

"Unusual"? The aliens have finally chosen Bute as the best place to land on planet Earth. Quite right too.
