Ajloun-Jordan

The place is famous for its imposing castle,known as Qalat ar-Rabad,which dominates the landscape from a few kilometres away,It is one of the best preserved medieval fortified structures in Jordan,and from its height of 1250 metres it furnishes spectacular views over the valley of Jordan.
Built by the Arabs of the Ayyubid dynasty around 1185,conquered and destroyed by the Mongols in 1260,the fortress was immediately rebuilt and enlarged by the Mamluke sultan Baibars.
Ajloun Forest Reserve
Dominated by woodlands of Evergreen Oak,Pine,Carob,Wild Pistachio and Wild Strawberry trees,this area has a long history of human settlement,due to its mild climate,dense forests, and fertile soil.Once situated amongst the network citirs of the Roman Decapolis,the forest is now central to the ruins of Jerash,UmmQais and Pella.This rich hisotry is reflected in the many archaeological ruins scattered in the woodlans and surrounding villages.
