Malus x purpurea.
A fruiting tree featuring in Spring clusters of bright red buds opening to light purple followed by small round, reddish-purple crabapples in Autumn.
The leaves are purplish-green and the dark brown bark flakes and cracks attractively. Grows to about 4m.
Quite new in our garden - replacing birch trees that needed too
much water in our relatively dry climate.
