Octavius Weld

This lovely old fragrant tea rose was originally found in the Blakiston cemetery and
renamed after the name on the nearest gravestone
because the Rosarians of the day couldn't recognise which rose it was.
This was an entry in the book "Naming the Rose" and I took a photo for the book
of the grave site as the good gentleman (Dr. Octavus Weld - the rose was
misnamed when registered) had been dead since 1901
This rose is growing in my rose garden

Now this rose is a wonderful find, well, a found rose. We have the same practices here for naming them and they end up with extraordinary names like Hwy. 9 Pink. A real beauty, documented by your fine capture. V

I remember Lyn going to Blakiston to take the photo of it on the grave so I could see it. This is a beautiful shot, Von.

I thought it was a Peony from the thumb! It's very lovely indeed.
