Danger - 31

Far enough away from our house.

This tree may not look dangerous to people who aren't used to gum trees (eucalyptus)
but they have the habit of dropping limbs when there's a change in weather, from hot to
cold and vice versa. This one has dropped quite a few, as you can see from this almost
full sized photo (I had to stand back a long way to get this much in). Dick has a chain
saw and cuts up fallen limbs, we have friends who welcome free timber for their
log fires and pizza ovens.

This tree is home to birds, particularly parrots & ducks and we've seen possums nesting
in the tree. Koalas like the safe branches for a daily sleep.

Thanks everyone for kindly commenting on my offerings this month, its been a fun
challenge!

Oh, I like this. A great idea and spin off for danger. Yep, don't be hanging around under there if the weather changes1

I often think how strange things must have been for the first settlers. Nothing looks more benign than a tree, but they can be such a menace. Excellent work, and a great description. Well done.

Grief! Best watch out then...it must be cool having possums and koalas snoozing in your tress though...that's just brilliant! It's been a blast doing the Challenge with you Yvonne, thanks for all your visits and comments...hope to see you in November :o)

Nice shot of the widow maker! Love the scent these trees have but they damaged a carport earlier this year.

We have many of these here. I heard the gum trees were brought over from Australia because they thought they could use the wood for railroad ties. Not only are they dangerous when dropping branches, but they burn very well too and are dangerous in wild fires. It's been a lot of fun doing the challenge with you Yvonne.

It does look dangerous and spooky too. What a beautiful intruiging shape!

Impressive tree, interesting information!
A fallen branch has killed people in Finland, too,
but this happens fortunately very very seldom.. V!

Didn´t know that a tree can be that dangerous, but sounds so interesting and also about the habitat he is housing! Good story!

They are called Widow Makers here :-)
What a great old tree.

Another fact learned today! This tree looks quite strange in its almost plundered look.

Well done, Von..a good choice. This one sees to have suffered a few fates by the look of it...no camping in a tent under there !!
