Blackall - Queensland - Australia view map

Where we stopped to have lunch on a balmy Queensland spring day. Dick was so pleased to find
this three-sided plaque that he asked me to photograph each side. This is the first "page" or side which talks about a major shearing strike that gave birth to the Queensland Labor Party.

Blackall is where shearing legend, Jack Howe, set a world record shearing 321 sheep in seven hours and forty minutes with blade shears. It actually took another 58 years before anyone could match his feat and that was with machine shears

Jack Howe also gave his name to the navy singlet worn by shearers, though he actually wore a flannel shirt with sleeve to soak up the sweat & stave of " back chills " :>)
Good history, Von.
