Timber Wolf

Un loup aux aguets ...

A wolf on it's guards ...

This was a real treat ... This wolf was eyeballing me for a while and got in such a fantastic position, I got exactly the picture I wanted. The difficulty here is with the gear I was using. If you have never shot a Nikon 600mm f4.0 before, it is hard to understand. That lend doesn't forgive, move a 1/4 of an inch while shooting and the shot os blurred. This was shot thru a fence ( I know it is disapointing since it was not in the wild). I did set up the aperture to get only part of the TimberWolf in focus so we can concentrate on it's facial. Magical shot for me.

Nikon D2x ,Nikkor 600mm f/4D IF-ED AF-S II
1/1000s f/6.3 at 600.0mm iso100 full exif

Having bought a book on wolves by Jim brandenburg years ago I am always drawn to these sorts of photos. If you don`t mind me saying a fairly simple composition that just works, coupled with great light, focus, detail and colour.
Would love to see a large poster of this. Outstanding.

Great capture. I like the DOF - the face is most in focus. Very nice. Voted.
