My name is Joel Ewing. I was born in Lincoln in '54, but grew up in Tucson, Az. My grandparents farmed west of Loretto, and my late dad was born on that farm in '27. My grandparents were Carl and Anna Ewing. My late dad was Randall Ewing. He passed in '93. Randall had an older sister Marion and an older brother Raymond Ewing. They are both passed. I would spend summers between the Ewing farm and my aunt/uncle/cousin's farm west of Albion. Their name was Wayne and Marion Sanford. Marion passed in Albion in 2007. My first cousins are Craig, Cindy (Sanford)Kugler, Bryan and Connie(Sanford) Scott. I had the best times of my life being shuffled between those 2 farms. We played like little Huckleberry Finns around the old cottonwood groves. I dearly miss my grandparents and my aunt Marion (Ewing)Sanford. The question was raised about the old courthouse...."why was it torn down?". I can tell you that my late dad Randall Ewing was extremely upset when it was finally brought down. And not to name names directly, but I distinctly remember him being disgusted with a certain owner of the Boone County Paper back in the 1960's that he felt "ramrodded" the idea that a new courthouse needed to be built...when in his opinion and many others...it didn't. Oh, it was a shame to demolish that gorgeous old building. Perhaps it was too far "gone" to be upgraded to pass modern building codes...who knows? I travel through Nebraska each spring stormchasing, and quite a few old county courthouses built in the same timeline are still standing. Thanks for reading. Joel Ewing / Tucson, Arizona

I was born Mary Ellen Tisthammer, also known as Peggy Ann Tisthammer, and adopted. Maybe I was named after another Mary Ellen? Thank you for the photos.

Alan thanks for this site!! This is so much fun! I don't know where you got all these photos, but they are priceless! I had never seen that photo of the Catholic Church...such a clear, clean photo of the Methodist church also. I grieve for the courthouse every time I see a photo of it...why did we let them tear it down.(Think I am going to have to work some of these photos in a painting!)
