These are a set of photos I took while travelling in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu is a state of 70 million people, and the state language Tamil, is one of the major languages of India. While one of the astonishing facts about India is that the country has close to a 1000 languages and dialects, a few of them dominate among a large section of the population. Tamil is one such in the South Indian region.
In the Hindu scripture known as the Shiv Puran, which is dedicated to the God Shiva, Tamil Nadu is known as the Punya Bhumi or the sacred land, for the immense number of Shiva temples that dot its landscape. A few of the temples I visited include the Chidambaram Temple and the Kanchi Ekambareshwar Temple. I also stopped at the Mudumalai wildlife sanctuary, and the town of Pondicherry.
