We flew to London on Aug 2 to visit our daughter. The flight takeoff was delayed for about 45 minutes due to busy air traffic in London. As my left leg is now incapacitated I’d requested for wheelchair assistance for both departure and arrival. And they have done a good job. Here below are the key highlights of our stay:
Aug 3: Lunch at Dishoom @ Shoreditch (Bombay-style café). (Photos 0803 21 & 22 were taken after the lunch in the neighborhood.)
Aug 4: Canary Wharf: Lunch at Birley Sandwiches and visit the Crossrail (Photos 0804 10 & 15)
Aug 5: Lunch at Gauthier, SOHO (starring Alexis Gauthier's modern French cuisine). Photo 0805 09 is my main dish.
Aug 6: Canada Water – rest and Public Library
Aug 7: Lunch at Rocca; Garden of the Dulwich Pictures Gallery (opposite to Rocca). Photos 0807 10 & 15.
Aug 8: Lunch at Prawnography (Photo 0808 03 & 13 - the surrounding scene and the Spider crab). I spent three hours plus at the National Gallery. Evening mass.
Aug 9: 10:00 Eurostar to Paris. Montmarte (Photos 0809 09, 24, 29, 52 & 72) and afternoon tea at the Le Progres Café. The Trocadéro, Chaillot district – for view of the Eiffel Tower (Photo 0809 84). Dinner at Buvette (most good restaurants closed for several weeks during Aug. Buvette is the Paris branch of the fame French restaurant in New York)
Aug 10: Louvre: I spent nearly 5 hours there (from 10:30 - Photos 0810 03, 38 & 53). Galeries Lafayette: Evening shopping (Photo 0810 01). Dinner at Salsamenteria di Parma
Aug 11: River Seine (Photo 0811 06). Notre Dame de Paris (Photos 0811 34, 35, 37, 79 & 94). Lunch at Fragments. Afternoon tea at La Chocolaterie de Jacques Genin (great pâtes de fruits) (Photos 0811 131, 132 & 140 – The chef himself). Visit Centre Georges Pompidou (Photo 0811 162). Dinner at Crêperie Pen-Ty (Photo 0811 175).
Aug 12: River Seine (Photo 0812 02). Musée d’Orsay (Photo 0812 21). Champs- Élysées (Photo 0812 74). Eurostar to London at 18:30
Aug 13: Oxford Street: lunch at Princess Garden and shopping at Selfridges.
Aug 14: Borough Market (Photo 0814 04).
Aug 15: Druid Street Market (Photos 0815 01, 08 & 18). Lunch at Royal China, Baker Street with David and Family. Evening Mass. BBC Prom at Royal Albert Hall (Sibelius Symphonies 1 & 2 plus Finlandia and it’s the first time that I went out alone for over three hours since my operations and radio + chemo therapy) (Photos 0815 19, 24 & 25).
Aug 16: Lunch at the Garden Gate, Hampstead Heath (Wood-panelled 19th-century pub with tasseled lampshades and a large, heated garden) (Photo 0816 03). Walk: World Peace Garden Hampstead Health.
Aug 17: Lunch at Patty Bun, James Street (Short menu of gourmet burgers in brioche buns with skin-on, thin-cut chips in a tiny, simple space.) (Photos 0817 10 & 11).
Aug 18: Westfield Stratford City – lunch at Jamie’s Italian (Celebrity chef's relaxed Italian chain, with rustic menu and antipasti bar.) (Photo 0818 02). Dinner at Vivian’s home at Bywater Place.
Aug 19: Canary Wharf: Lunch at Wahaca (Mexican chain diner with a lively soundtrack for small plates of market-style food and cocktails.) (Photo 0819 04)
