Last Saturday (Oct 30) the HK Heritage Office opens to the public the revitalized Haw Par Mansion. Hundreds of people queued up for a free visit. Though my son has booked in advance a guided tour (20 people I think) so after a short briefing we started our 30-minute tour at 14:10.
Haw Par Mansion and the Tiger Balm Garden attached it (demolished in 2004 and sold to Cheung Kong which built The Legend, a high class residential apartment) were constructed by Mr. Aw Boon-haw as a home for his family in 1935. The Mansion is a mixture of Chinese and Western architectural style. Unlike The Tiger Balm Garden it has not opened to the public until now. Well there’s not much to be seen and I wish they’d kept the Tiger Balm Garden for nostalgic sake.
The last two photos were taken at Taikoo Shing Shopping Arcade.
