Mackinac Island was the highlight of our tour. The Island measures just 2x3 miles and is nearly s unspoiled as when the first Europeans arrived 3 centuries ago. No motorized vehicles are allowed, so all visitors travel by foot, bicycles or horse-drawn carriages. Most of the Island is designated as a State Park.

The Grand Hotel is a National Landmark. It was built in 1887 and retains the ambiance of that day. Staying at this hotel is an experience itself.

The inner island is very scenic and has many walking trails.

Fort Mackinac is different from the Fort Machilimackinac, as it is Michigan's only original Revolutionary War fort that has been accurately restored with 14 original buildings. It is a project in the works, as they are still excavating artifacts from the site.
