The flooded MallAfter the downpour. The Washington Mall flooded. It absolutely poured an hour earlier. We had to wade through 4-6" of water! |

Native ProtestersThese children spend every November living in a tipi on the grounds of the mall, near the Washington Monument. They are from the Omaha Tribe & their parents are Native Rights activists. We visit them every November and have watched them grow up.
Their parents Nathan and Shoshona, invited us into their warm tipi for the first time when it was a 11 degree, windy evening when I had Addie (then 6) with me. We had some friends in common on the Navajo reservation. We became quick friends. |
A gift to remember a loved oneI was fortunate to visit the wall on the 25th anniversary. They asked family members to read the names of the fallen for a 3 day period of time. In addition, many offerings were laid at the wall. |
The WallThe anniversary of the wall. See DSCN 0811 narrative. You can see the long lines of visitors, families and reunions of military groups here for the commemoration. |

The Vietnam WallMy daughter and granddaughter finding the name of CPL Richard Rudd that saved their dad/grandad in Vietnam. It was freezing today. By the evening, it was down to 11 degrees and windy. BRRRRR! |
The Mall from the Lincoln MemorialIt was freezing cold this night, Minus 10 degrees with the wind chill. After we left here, we walked down the mall toward the Washington Monument. It was there that Nathan and Shoshona extended their hospitality to us and invited us into their tipi for the first time. They saved us with us with a small child in tow. We found that we had friends in common from the Navajo Reservation. What a small world.

1800 doctorA doctor in the 1790's period. Williamsburg is a wonderful place to visit. It is like stepping back into history in the late 1700's. Everything has been restored and the folks that work there are dressed in period costume. A great place for kids to learn history- while having fun! |
