Remnant of the Bucket Brigade

Klamath Falls, OR

This bucket stands on our County Annex Steps. It was a gift from the ranchers of Elko, Nevada to our basin ranchers during the "Water Wars" of 2001 . Ranchers camped out at the "A Canal" all spring and summer that year. The Feds took water rights away from the farmers and ranchers, and it was a very divisive period for our community. Natives vs ranchers vs Feds. Many ranchers went bankrupt. In the end, the feds brought in officers and ran everyone out. They built a very tall fence around the A canal. Ranchers from other 7 other states drove hundreds of miles to support basin ranchers. They gave this bucket to the county. It has been vandalized by some louts and the plaque was stolen off the front.

Nice shot and very interesting story. We're going on water rationing soon and up in Fresno and Sacramento they don't pay for water. They can't because they don't event have water meters!!!

Damned government, anyway. They haven't gotten much better, but they can be bought.
