Penn's Caves is America's only all-water cavern and wildlife park and is nestled in Central Pennsylvania's scenic Penn State Country. It is about 20 miles from Penn State University, close to the town of Center Hall. The Caves offer two tours - the caverns tour by boat and the wildlife tour. The cavern tour is a guided one-hour tour by motorboat on an underground stream. The caverns showcase some of the most complex formations of stalagmites and stalactites, formed over millions of years. Stalagmites and stalactites grow an inch every 400 years and inside the caves one can see full pillars from the roof to the floor.

The caves open out into Lake Nittany (or Nita-nee), which is teeming with fish, geese and beautiful swan. The wildflife tour is on a bus and you can see typical American wildlife like bison, elk, wolves and bears. The entry is $13.50 for the caverns and $18.50 for the wildlife tour. The caves are open all year except January while the wildlife tour is closed during the winter.

Penn's Caves might be far from common tourist routes, but the formations inside make the trip very worthwhile. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
