Tirupati - Andhra Pradesh


This is one of the most sacred Hindu temples.
The temple at Tirumala is probably the most visited religious spot after Mecca. Tirupati is also
the second richest religious institution after the Vatican City. The temple is dedicated to Vishnu
the second deity of the Hindu Holy Trinity who assumes the role of preserver of the cosmos. In this
temple Vishnu resides as Venkateswara, an avatar or incarnation of Vishnu.

The legend goes that Vishnu borrowed a lot of money from Kubera to marry Goddess Lakshmi, and till
date he is still repaying his debt. Thus till the debt is complete, his wife, shall reside in the
foothills of Tirumala in Mangapura.

Tirumala, is also a hill station. It is a beautiful place, and best seen in the winter months.
Given the religious significance of the temple, everyone visits Tirumala only as a pilgrim but once
there it is difficult to not see the beauty around.

Karthik, i've been following your PAD galleries for a while now. This takes the cake! My heart skipped a beat, mind wandered to childhood memories of Akasaganga and other mist-covered places of beauty, Ram Bagicha hotel, Woodlands restaurant, the tiny bangles shops in every street, the sweet temple water, lakka pidatalu(wooden toy-kitchen set), Laddu and Minapa Vada, and the best of all- Lord Balaji's magnificent darshan! Getting to live in India AND travel so much, how lucky is that! Keep the pics coming.
