Millennium bridge with St. Paul's Cathedral, London

view map

With construction beginning in 1998, it was the first new bridge across the Thames in London since
Tower Bridge in 1894 and it is owned and maintained by Bridge House Estates, a charitable trust
overseen by the City of London Corporation. It is a pedestrian only bridge and once can get a
scenic view of St. Paul's Cathedral on one side and the Globe Theatre and Tate Museum on the other.
From the bridge, you can see the River Thames and Tower Bridge in the distance.

The design of the bridge was the subject of a competition organised in 1996 by Southwark council. The
winning entry was an innovative "blade of light" effort from Arup, Foster and Partners and Sir Anthony
Caro. The bridge is also known as the Wibbly Wobbly Bridge
