This photograph reminds me of my childhood some 60 years ago living on my Uncle Tom Jarrell's homeplace near Phenix City, Alabama. Chicken always ran around free. Everything was raised on the farm. The main crop was cotton. They had all kinds of farm animals. They were pretty much self sufficient. Remember my Aunt Fannie churning for butter and making buttermilk. They raise hogs for meat and salt cured it. The best ever bacon, sausage and ham ! Thanks so much for sharing !
