The 1949 Cadillac, with fins inspired by the P-38 Lightning Fighter Plane with twin booms, and its new Kettering Overhead valve V-8 engine, in my opinion was the nicest looking post-war Cadillac GM made. By 1950 they had become heavier, bulbous and stocky looking. 1949 was also the first year Cadillac offered a two door pillarless hardtop with its Coupe DeVille. Buick also came out with a pillarless hardtop that year called the "Riviera", and all Buick two and four door hardtops carried that name throughout the 1950's. In the 60's, it became Buick's luxury specialty car, like the Pontiac Grand Prix and the Olds Toronado. My favorite Cadillac to this day remains the 1949. It's simple tasteful lines is indicative of why Cadillac at that time was the Standard of the World in luxury automobiles. Thanks for the outstanding photograph of this beautiful car.
