1st album of two from Day 2 of GNRS. Approximately 200 photos in this album. I will not say I did not duplicate some of the shots I took on Friday (the 1st day) but I tried to mix it up and add cars that were not there on Friday. There were a number of cars outside that I took. Also I took photos of Billy F. Gibbons that was there and the Surfing Safaris band, Also a guy that originally played on the Munsters was there. I was going to stay for the Pinup contest at the swede Palace but it was starting to sprinkle a bit and I did not want to get caught in the major rain that is predicted for tonight.

This is the 59th annual Grand National Roadster Show. This year marks the 4th year that GNRS is held at Pomona Fairgrounds in Pomona, CA.

You will find several photos of certain cars that I personally liked. I made every attempt to cover as many cars as I could but if yours is missing I am sorry. Spent another 8 hours or so shooting today. Have about 400 additional shots to share in 2 albums. Totals for the 2 days about 1,000. Enjoy...

Rat Rods, Suede Rods, whatever you want to call them, I love em. I have watched and Many of these guys have more fun with thier "rusty trash" than the guy with the trailer queen. Isn't that a big part of what this hobbie is all about? I see character, individuality, personality in these drivers and their cars. At least their in the game -maybe even redefining some of the rules. Don

I agree with "Guest" that these "trash" cars are ug-lee. We live in a time where people make themselves ugly so why not their cars. To each his own but "rat rods" are to hot rodding as "rap" is to music.

To the 'Guest': Some of the "trash" as you call it costs more to build than many of the sparkling beauties. It's the same as restoring a vintage airplane in a 'weathered' scheme. It takes countless hours of thought as to how and where the aging process occurs, not only in the paint but mechanics as well, then execution of the job. No easy trick! In fact, Best Of Show at the recent Moorpark Show, with over 500 cars, was won by a '29 Rat Rod...

maybe because they just love hot rod world and that is all they can put together in todays world!!! so show some respect 75 year old man!! my grandfather is 83 and he loves it ALL. hell look at billy gibbons (zz top) ford pickup he put together awesome truck so the 75 year old show some taste AND CLASS!! KEN LEONARD YOU ROCK GREAT JOB!! I WAS THERE ALL 3 DAYS INCLUDING THURSDAY MOVE IN DAY AND THERE ARE PICS YOU TOOK THAT I DIDNT EVEN GET A CHANCE TO SEE GREAT WORK!!! THANKS SO MUCH!!

THey are known as "rat rods". Most are rods made recently to look like the rods we had in our day (I'm 65 years old). A few are actually originals. The GNRS actually has an entire building devoted to rat rods and primers. In fact there is another show known as the Primer Nationals that is totally devoted to this genre. In your eyes you may view these as "trash" but in actuality there is a lot of thought and genius put into these. It is very important to understand what is happening here. Younger gear heads can put these together relatively cheaply and it gets them interested in the old stuff. After all, what is going to happen when gearheads like you and I pass on? I do hope that from our grave we do not see the likes of 2008 Hondas and Scions! Now, to my way of thinking those two are the real junk! Ken Leonard Photographer

What the hell is in the minds of these guys that exhibit unfinished, junky looking, rusty,& unsightly trash at such an outstanding & prestigous event?? I'm 75 yrs old & thats what we used to drive to school daily, for sure NOT to take to a show!!!!
