Cēsis

An old castle town established in the Gauja Valley in the 13th century, Cēsis now occupies a quiet corner off the beaten path, yet within easy reach of the capital. Largely left alone during the Soviet era, it's now one of the most thoroughly Latvian towns in the country by population.
