The main popular tradition in the Alta Ribagorça region, in the Catalan Pyrenees are the "falles", that takes place in the week of the June 24th (depending on the town). The falles are burning trunks that have a length of 2m, that young people carry from the mountains to the respective town. Every year, young people are organized in groups in order to catch the firewood. The initial fire is called "faro" (=lighthouse), and normally it is located in a mountain that can be seen from the town. Every participant starts burining its "falla" from this initial fire and then, everybody starts running (see picture http://www.pbase.com/image/101518948) from the mountain to the town. When they arrive to the town, they are received with music and they leave the "falles" in a big fire. After that, people continues dancing around this fire, during the whole night...
