The farmer took good care of these hounds, even feeding them quality food. I see much much worse from most of the rescues here in Ireland, some of which have open air kennels VS the farmer's fully-enclosed sheds and generous runs next to a large field. The farmer stopped using hounds for hunting, and asked friends if they knew anyone that would give the hounds a good home. I gladly took one in.
I had expected to see a few male hounds and no females. When I arrived I was informed they only had females left. I had prepared a name for a male - it was to be between: Fearghus/Fearghal(having FEAR in yer name is sort of cool), Diarmuid, Cormac (and ya know we'd ended up calling him 'Mac'), Cillian (pronounced Killian - naming a hound Killian just makes sense), depending on how the mood struck me. I recalled the sign I saw as we entered County Carlow - 'Failte Go Ceatharlach' - Welcome To Carlow. I thought the Irish spelling of Carlow was attractive, thus I named my new hound "Ceatharlach".
