Angela Powerscourt Wood

Most of these trees are nearly 200 years old. From left to right is a Red Cedar, a Sequoia redwood, three more Red Cedars, another Sequoia way in the back there, and that might be a Sitka Spruce hiding behind the Douglas Fir with it's furrowed bark there on the right, and then another red cedar.

A couple of centuries ago, Sir David Douglas, whose Douglas Fir namesake comes from, a member of the Royal Horticultural Society, surveyed and collected trees and seeds from the 'New World'. Hence, we have several mature North American specimens in the Isles and even in Europe.

How amazing was this guys life? He was born in 18th century Scotland and died in 1834 climbing Mauna Kea, Hawaii!
