What did you do here other than blur the background? The people in the image really pop out from the background and I don't think it's just because you blurred them and applied a mask.
Please also, could you post more what you do to the retouch? that's what's interesting. The one of the cheerleaders for example, looks like some color correction and color cast removal, but more detail is helpful.
