Ireland - Dingle Town & Dingle Peninsula

Dingle, a town of about 1,100 people, it is a fishing village which seems to have adapted well to the tourist trade. People in Dingle (as everywhere we visited) are very friendly and seem to appreciate the visitors.
In Dingle Town I took a tour with Sciuird Archaeological tours run by Tim and Michael Collins.
This is not designed as a scenic tour, although you can't go anywhere around Dingle without wonderful scenery. You can book this tour at Kirrary B&B at the corner of Dykegate & Grey's lane in Dingle. A great historic tour run by knowledgeable people.

Very beautiful pictures! Thank you. Ireland suffered a great Famine in 1846, 47, and many died. The Famine graveyard ( where thousands were buried during those years) is in the field behind the old hospital. The Government set up a scheme at the time to help people by providing work, and paying them. But it was too late, many died of disease and starvation as they were too weak to work. If you travelled through the scenic Conor Pass, that road was built by Famine Relief teams.

Beautiful pictures. I like the captions below, too. Thanks for sharing! I remember seeing the huge rock on the street in Dingle. Is there any significance to it or did they just decide to leave it and build around it?

Beautiful photos, Bill! Very nicely done. My husband and I went on a 10 day trip to Ireland in mid-September to celebrate my recent retirement from teaching and saw many of the same sites that you and your wife did. Nice, sunny pictures! I just returned from a personalized tour of Dingle and was looking online to find dates for Reasc. Thanks. Did you know that the stone cross at Kilmalkedar is buried 60 feet deep into the ground? That is to show that the people's faith would never budge. Amazing that they could do that!

You forget to get a photo of the what's left of the residence/school house from Ryan's Daughter. I found it by climbing a fence and walking through a field. I walked to the top of a rise and there is was, right on the coast. Wow!!
