The size of this shorebird is what was surprising. Seeing them at the beach there isn't much to give you a comparison and they seem quite small but seeing it next to the L.B. Dowitchers and in front of a Stilt Sandpiper, as it is in this picture, was eyeopening. They are much larger than the Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers and just barely smaller than the Stilt Sandpiper.
