The Bison Bunch at Big Bone Lick State Park

A chance visit to Big Bone Lick State Park in Union, Kentucky brought a pleasant surprise, a herd of Bison. The Bison herd is part of an effort to ensure the continued existance of Bison in the United States. These magnificent beasts once ruled the prairie, but indiscriminate hunting reduced their numbers to less than 1000. Through conservation efforts and "captive" herds, such as the one at Big Bone Lick State Park, the Bison is no longer an endangered species.
