TRACHELIDAE - Bull-headed Hunters

Locations of Site Visitors
Trachelidae is a family of araneomorph spiders first described by Eugčne Simon in 1897 as a subfamily called "Tracheleae" ("Trachelinae" in modern terminology). It was placed in the Clubionidae family, then later in Corinnidae when the Clubionidae were split up. An analysis by Martín J. Ramírez in 2014 suggested that it was not closely related to other members of the Corinnidae, and was better treated as a separate family.

Spider identification from photographs should not be definitive in many cases.
For positive identification of many spiders, it is often necessary to examine their copulatory organs under a microscope.
