My outdoor rock/lead instructor recommended getting good at placing Hexes and Stoppers before getting used to using cams, the argument being that if you can place hexes well you'll have a better understanding of what you're doing when you move to cams. Well, that and they're hella cheaper. Bought sizes not covered by stoppers or hexes)
DMM Nutter cleaning tool (it has tails bent in to be able to rescue cams that have walked in too far. They always get hung up on the carabiner I keep it on, though.)
