Light On The Celtics (Grandson)
How'd I do this? Hint: I can replicate this one. ISO 3200

8 Yr Old Point Guard
Grandson - in the second grade. No-look dribbles, left & right handed, no-look passes. How do they learn this stuff at this age?

Which One Is The Female?
This pair was squabbling and the one on the right was humbled by the noise made by the one on the left. I don't know if he got in late or what, but he was sure getting chewed out!

New 1D Mark III - Kildeer
A huge difference. I don't know why I even bothered to post the images taken with my previous Mark III. This is as sharp as an image that I have taken with my 5D, or 1D Mark II's.
This is a Kildeer, and according to the book, they are not usually found near water. I've seen this pair along a gravel road for several weeks now, so I guess they are breaking the Kildeer rules.

On Golden Pond
Some days you get a really special light for about 15 - 20 minutes before sundown. It's nice to be there with a camera and a subject when you get this light.

Uppity
Domestic Goose gander. Always checks out whoever is coming near to his girlfriend. They can bite pretty good. In a number of rural areas they are used to weed corn and bean fields. They are also known for their "watchdog" characteristics. They will set off a chorus that will make a couple of German Shepards pale in comparison.

Test After Canon-Irvine
I am getting legitimately sharp images now with my 1DmkIII. More objective tests in the near future will tell me how much better.

Heron - Test Grab Shot
Not a structured image test, but a quick shot taken to see how it compared to nearly identical shots taken 2 weeks earlier. This time the AF found the Heron 12 out of 12 times. Heron was approx 50 yards distant, and this is approx. a 50% crop.

Test Grab Shot After Canon Tune-up
My 1D3 focus has been problematic, even in single shot non-AI mode. The last trip to Canon has improved the focusing ability of this camera at least in this AF Mode. More objective comparisons will be done shortly.

Greater Egret 1
Taken near sundown from the shadow side. It would have been better from the side with the light on it, but you can't place wildlife where you want them, so you take what you can get.
23-SEP-2007
Greater Egret 2
After floods during the spring and summer, we are still left with a wetlands area that has attracted a large number of shore and wading birds. These are a bit shy, but you can get a decent photo with a long lens. This is a 100% crop from the image.

Kildeer At Sunset
Wandering around in the gravel and sand near the flood plain, still underwater.

Redhawks At 3200 ISO
Taken at the Oklahoma City Redhawks game on 8/14/07. The stands on the left sit on the west further blocking any late sunset light. Photo was taken at 8:34 PM, at f 4.5, at 115 mm, 1/400 sec and at ISO 3200. I slightly adjusted the exposure downward .15 in PS Bridge, and that was it before converting to JPG. In PS3, I applied 66% at .8 pixel only - in smart sharpen. What you see here is a down-sized image from the original of 15.6 MB. The D3 is capable of producing outstanding images at times.

Mississippi Kite
On the trail of a Cicada - will pass the PETA test. Their diet consista totally of insects. Larger ones, such as Cicadas, Dragon Flies, Beetles, etc. I was lucky to catch this one in the dive configuration. They usually soar gracefully with wings wide-spread over tree groves near lakes, where insects abound. I finally caught one just as it began to tuck its wings, and zero in on the target, that it caught. They have large, extended families. This same morning when I walked into this area before sunrise, there were nine of them all sitting closely in the same tree. Shot at ISO 1600, f 5.6 @ 1/800 sec.

Mississippi Kite I
A watchful parent allows me to get close only because of the need to tend to the safety of two nearby juveniles.
30-JUL-2007
Mississippi Kite II
Another angle of the one immediately following. Not much difference, except maybe a little nicer glint in the eye. These are a very graceful bird in flight.
30-JUL-2007
Mississippi Kite
A parent (mom or dad - unknown) keeps close watch on the two juveniles that are in a nearby tree.

Man With Dog
A nice dog that had recently gone through obedience school, and was getting a refresher from his owner. In the original photo, I can clearly see the hands on the man's watch, including the second hand.

Yellow Crown Night Heron II
Another one. Near, but not at the same location on Mulvey's Pond. This one is either a female, or a younger version of the other one. The crown is much smaller. Oklahoma is known as the landof the Red Earth. Nearly 10" of rain in two weeks will result in a lot of the red clay wasing downstream and this is what it looks like in a pond for a few days until it settle to the bottom.
26-JUN-2007
Yellow Crown Night Heron
This is a smaller Heron. Weight average for an adult is shown as 1.5#. About the size of a goose in height. This one was looking for small fish or crawdads following a 2" inch rain.

Raining In Oklahoma
May and June has been one of the wettest, and coolest periods ever seen in this state. We're getting another nice rain today. I can't count how many days in a row that we've had measurable precipitation, but most of it has been slow and drizzly. Today is somewhat different. The rain is heavier again and we are expected to get up to 3". Enjoying it while we can. We all know that in 3 days, the winds could be blowing and the dust flying.

Storm Coming
Best view is on a hill. Shortest distance for lightning is to the hill. Taken from inside a tent when the rain started.

Daddy Sparrow feeds juvenile.

Cardinal - Female
Taken with the Canon 1 D Mark III with the Canon 100-400 IS L, with the Canon 1.4x TC at ISO 800. No post-processing other than the crop and image down-sizing.

Cardinal - Female With Post Processing
Same image as the previous, except this has some slight post processing applied. Smart Sharpen, and I warmed up the colors slightly.
28-MAY-2007
Blue Jay
Taken with the 100-400 IS L with the Canon 1.4x TC at ISO 800. Photo is straight from DPP Canon RAW converter with no post processing.
28-MAY-2007
Blue Jay With Post Processing
Same image as the previous but cropped, and with slight smart sharpening applied.
28-MAY-2007
Blue Jay 2
Taken at the same time as the previous Blue Jay image - same Blue Jay. Taken with the Canon 100 - 400 IS L with the Canon 1.4x TC, at ISO 800.

Rose
I apologize - I'm not a flower person, and as a result, the composition could have probably been much better from someone who knows and appreciates these more than I do. I was still experimenting with the new 1D3 with my 100-400 IS L with the 1.4x TC at ISO 800. I like the surprisingly nice bokeh produced by this lens - on this camera.
28-MAY-2007
Rose With Post Processing
Same image as the previous, except slight post-processing was applied. Slight USM and cropped tighter.
