This is a 2 hour exposure in Ha (hydrogen alpha) with a 6nm filter. This very narrow filter cuts out all other wavelengths of light, including light pollution from the city. Many emission nebulas like this and the Rosette nebula, above, emit much of their light in this narrow band.

Two hour total exposure, 15 minute sub-exposures.
