Andromeda Galaxy (M31) - Mosaic

Andromeda

This is the first stage of an M31 mosaic project I have undertaken this summer. This image is a four frame mosaic, where each frame currently contains 39 minutes of luminance data collected over two nights. I started the project a bit early, so M31 was probably too low in the sky and the background gradient is quite prominent in the raw data. This is a complication for processing but also means some of the data is overwhelmed by background. I plan to repeat the luminance data later in the summer when M31 is higher in the sky.

Absolutely magnificant. I get spellbound every time I gaze at the Andromeda. Fantastic job, keep it up!

The Luminance layer looks very good so far. Close inspection of some of the brighter stars around M31 are showing a little blooming from your ST-8 chip and also the airy disks but additional luminance and processing should help eliminate those flaws. Nice work so far, I guess I will need to try my hand at it also using my C8 & 20Da and then we can compare. Star focus looks very good over entire field. That'll be my challenge with the larger field area obtainable with the 20Da's chip.

Beautiful job. Almost gossimer-like. Great tracking job
