This is a wide field view of the region surrounding the star Alnitak.
Alnitak is the bright blue star just to the left of center. Down and to its left is the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024). To the right of Alnitak is the Horsehead Nebula (IC 434), so named for the dark region in its center that looks like a horse's head or a Knight (chess piece). Below and between the Flame and Horsehead nebulae is a smaller nebula (NGC 2023). It looks slightly green in this image.
Above and right of center is another bright star, 48-Sigma Orionis.
Alnitak is the left-most star of Orion's Belt. In this image, North is roughly to the left. The middle star of Orion's Belt is directly above Alnitak, outside of the field of view by about 1/4 of the height of the image. If you slid this field of view to the right by one full width, and slightly down, the Great Orion Nebula would be centered.
