Huang Long is located in Songpan County, 340 km away from Chengdu City, China. The altitude at Huang Long varies between 3120 and 5588 meters. The photos here are from my visit on 9/25/07. The drive there takes you through a beautiful mountain range. The name Huang Long comes from the shape of the park, which is said to resemble a yellow dragon. The 6 km boardwalk will take you from the side of the mountain into a valley where a river flows, forming over 3000 colored pools. The color of the pools due to the mineral deposits is unbelievable-light green to dark turquoise, with all shades in between!
