This beautiful fox, strangely, was in my front yard at around 7 pm on April Fools Day, 2008. When I saw it, I sprinted into the house to grab my camera and followed it across the street to a vacant lot where it roamed around, indifferent to my presence. First it started off about 50 feet away, but kept getting closer and closer, stopping about 10 feet away and posing for me--imagine my surprise! I can't remember ever being that close to a wild animal that could bite my leg off. Okay, maybe not "off", but it could definitely hurt! I kept shooting anyways. Fortunately, the fox already had something in its mouth, maybe a small rabbit, that it seemed to be thinking about burying. After a short while, it trotted off into the woods.

April 6, 2008 Update: The red fox came back! He was in the same area across the street once again. This time he seemed to be focusing in on one small area on the ground, pouncing up and down on it. After about a minute or so, he thrust his head into the ground and out popped a mole! He tossed it around a couple of times, grabbed it, then trotted right by me back across the street and into the woods, as if I wasn't even there. How cool!
