Orca Beach Attack

A first row seat on beaches along Peninsula Valdes brings with it an adrenaline packed experience with Mother Nature unplugged. In April 2016 we spent 2 weeks, 10 hours per day sitting on the beaches of Estancia La Ernestina, a private sheep ranch straddling the northern coastline of Peninsula Valdes in Patagonia Argentina. Our goal was to hopefully witness up close the unique foraging skills of the resident Orca pod. While Orcas are known to develop hunting skills specific to the environments where they live, some learning to be expert fish catchers while others prefer a mammalian diet. The Orcas of Peninsula Valdes have learned skills like no others on the Planet. They have learned how to intentionally strand themselves up on the beach in order to catch Sea Lion and Elephant Seal pups. Normally one might observe wild Orcas from a boat, but along Peninsula Valdes the best viewing is right from the beach.
