Our latest adventure was a 15 day Colorado River photography expedition through the Grand Canyon, river rafting, camping and sleeping under the stars. Our trip was organized by our National Geographic photographer friend, Ralph Lee Hopkins and was run by Arizona Raft Adventures (AZRA http://www.azraft.com/ ). We traveled with 17 photographers guided by 6 river guides / oarsman, running 5 rafts and one handmade Dory. Our trip covered 226 extraordinary river miles from Lee’s Ferry to Diamond Creek (above Lake Mead). Most of the trip was flat calm water but we also had plenty of whitewater with over 150 named rapids. While 4.5 million people visit the north and south rims of the Grand Canyon it’s only the adventurous 26,000 who raft it get to really see this national treasure and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
