This activty shows the parent close to one chick while the chick fools around by itself. Scratching, stretching, clutching are the main activities that the juv dabbles with under the protection of the parent. The parent is never far. During dusk, the adults will 'secure' the roosting site first by flying around to check and call to each other, perform their own preening and then the chicks will get more active and follow suit. The chicks do not venture far during feeding, where one parent will fly off to hunt while the other guards the chicks.
