New chicks

05 Aug 06, found the eggs gone and replaced by two chicks. They probably hatched on 04 Aug evening etc. Moved in quick to get some close ones while the adults zipped off and fly around distracting me. The chicks hatch with their eyes opened, they lie motionless and is waiting for the sun to dry out their fur. Within hours, they are actually mobile and they can run for cover when the alert call is sounded. When predators are near, they just lie down flat and stay motionless, until the threat moves off. Needing to warm to chicks, even in the face of threats, the female actually will run back to the nest mound to inspect the chicks.
