In 1988 Bill and Don Whittington had an idea to remake a legend and one of the greatest race planes of all time; the Griffon-powered Mustang. Only nine months later, the Griffon-powered precious metal was at Reno. Unfortunately, a few days later the Precious Metal was sitting on its belly in the middle of a dry lake, having crash-landed there. Following a six-year rebuild, Precious Metal was back in 1995. Precious Metal did not see Reno again until its new owner, Ron Buccarelli, brought here back in 1998 and hasn't left since.
