The North American B-25 Mitchell. It was this type of aircraft that was flown form the deck of the USS Hornet to attack the Japanese mainland in the beginning of World War II. Although the attack did little strategic damage, the physiological impact was enormous. Not only did it rally the spirits of the US, it also demonstrated to the Japanese that the Americans were a resourceful and cunning adversary.
