Traded for a T-6 in 1990 after a belly landing, Tom Dwelle has built one of air racing's icons; Critical Mass. Originally a trainer, the front cockpit has been covered over and the plane is flown from the rear. The wings have been clipped and modified, the tail redesigned and a Wright R-3350 installed, making this one of the fastest Sea Furies in the world. Tom retired in 2003 and the future of Critical Mass remains uncertain. Perhaps one of Tom's sons, Ken or TJ will campaign the big orange Critical Mass. Only time will tell.
