Around Nara

June 1, 2004 - June 5, 2004

My first few days in Japan were spent in Nara, the old imperial capital. The capital was moved from Nara to Kyoto when a Buddhist monk named Dokyo attempted to usurp the throne by seducing the the reigning empress.

That was the last time Japan had a female ruler. :)
