Around the Tonda Ningyo Kaikan

The kaikan (meeting house) was the primary venue for the bunraku program. It was here that we had our daily practices. Most of us traveled to the kaikan from our host families' homes by bicycle, and often during lunchtime we'd saddle up and ride a couple miles to the grocery store in northeast Kohoku-cho.

Here we are in the theater area of the kaikan.	We start each day by singing two songs	Abe-sensei and Bensei show how the puppets are done.	Holman-sensei teaches the zeros some hiragana basics.
	Holman-sensei takes the intermediate crew to the back for further instruction.	Shamiseners struggle to figure out just what the hell it is exactly they're trying to play.
