The Miyako Odori

Though a relatively recent creation, the Miyako Odori, or Dances of the Capital, is nevertheless one of Kyoto's most exciting and beautiful events. Held at the beginning of spring to coincide with the blooming of the cherry blossoms, the Miyako Odori also marks the emergence of talented young maiko (geisha-in-training) into the Kyoto social scene. Geisha and maiko perform all the dances.
