The Yamamoto Village Matsuri
September 12, 2004
One crazy night of kami worship, sake, and getting soaked.
With the wife of my older host brother, whom I have never met, oddly enough
Beating the drum in the procession
Yukinori, my gigantic Japanese host brother
And gaijin onii-chan Ben
Perhaps the best picture to come out of the evening - caught mid-soak
Yukinori on the prowl for more victims to soak
The kiddie version the following morning
The palanquin
Inside you can catch a glimpse of the Yamamoto village god
After the processions, the important folks of the village got all gussied up and participated in a special ceremony
Village priest heading up to the inner shrine to perform his duties
Dancers
Shinto musicians
the palanquin from the night before, minus the kami
Sumo wrestling
Ben meets his first challenger
I participated in the wrestling as well, but I'm afraid you won't be able to see the pictures ;)
And finally, the village dance
