A thank you to the guest poster for the taxonomy and description of this plant. It is definitely a weed in Australia with some areas declaring it noxious and requiring removal and or control by the land holder.

Great image, Greg. I was going to call it a milk weed plant, but the guest seems to be more of a plantoligist than I. Well done.

This is called a swan plant (Gomphocarpus fruticosus). The Monarch Butterfly lays its eggs on the plant's leaves and the leaves are basically the only food the caterpillars from the hatched eggs eat.
