Saddle Road is a famously bad and dangerous road despised by most rental car companies, which generally prohibit tourists from taking their vehicles on the road.
Saddle road isn't particularly dangerous. Some of the drivers are dangerous, but the road is fine. The real reason rental cars were prohibited is that they don't want people driving rentals on the summit roads and unpaved roads that branch off of saddle road.
