If you keep your eyes peeled, history is never far away. The whitish building in the distance is linked to Germany's past in more ways than one. Planned to reach a final length of 4,5 kilometers, it was meant to be the centerpiece of a resort for 20.000 vacationers. Another one of those megalomaniac plans dreamt up by the Nazis under the auspice of their KdF (Strength through Joy) social program. Construction was halted during the war, when this monstrosity was about halfway finished. Then it was pressed into service as a military hospital. After the downfall, soviet military took over and used it as barracks. After their demobilization it fell into neglect. Nowadays, it is one one the strangest real estate projects far and wide- one part is a museum, another a youth hostel, one part was converted into ritzy apartments and a sizeable chunk is in ruins or left as a shell.
